MEET 2024 NATIONAL CHAMPION JOSEPH

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals proudly introduces its newest cohort of National Champions, a group of extraordinary ambassadors dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need for charitable donations to support pediatric healthcare. These inspirational children and their families hail from diverse backgrounds and represent various member hospitals across the U.S. Each Champion’s unique journey exemplifies the profound impact of donations on their lives, underscoring the urgent need to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Meet Joseph:

Joseph was born premature, weighing just one pound, nine ounces, and spent nearly five months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System. At eight days old, Joseph underwent two major surgeries, one on his brain and one on his heart. Joseph’s many medical challenges included a stage 4 brain bleed. As a result, Joseph lives with hydrocephalus, which is a buildup of fluid in the brain. During his last month in the NICU, Joseph underwent a second major brain surgery to place a shunt as he is unable to process spinal fluid. Today, Joseph is an energetic 6-year-old who lights up every room he enters. Weekly outpatient speech, physical, and occupational therapy sessions help Joseph reach his fullest potential. When he isn’t busy with school, Joseph loves to talk about trains and help others. Joseph loves everybody! His big personality and contagious smile make people want to love life like he does.

Thanks to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals donations, Joseph and his medical team had access to specialized life-saving equipment in the NICU.

Meet all the 2024 National Champions.
